    Amazon's new Alexa Together service offers hands-free access to trained helpers to make sure you're okay if you need it. The service also integrates with a few compatible devices to monitor activity, track falls and contact emergency services.

    You can also opt in to the "remote assist" feature, which lets you set up your loved one's Alexa routine from the comfort of a phone or laptop. You can adjust settings, manage contacts and add reminders or shopping lists.

    There are several types of fall-detection devices, including AltumView and SkyAngelCare. Both systems connect to the Alexa Together monitoring center when they detect a fall.

    Some of these systems even offer a region-of-interest feature that lets you know when your loved one is entering a dangerous area like the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom.

    Another option is the TruSense Personal Emergency Pendant, which uses GPS to determine your location and automatically alerts caregivers if you fall or need assistance. It's available for a few different price points and features a button that can be pressed to activate a medical alert.

    If you have an older family member, it can be difficult to keep tabs on their daily activities. The new Alexa Together service is a good solution for keeping them safe and helping them live independently longer. But it should be used carefully and only after a conversation about aging in place and their privacy concerns.
