Reading aloud is an excellent tool in teaching them how to read, and reading counts a good deal towards their understanding of life and the usage of their imagination and creativity.<br /><br />If you have ever walked by a kindergarten classroom it's likely you'll visit a teacher reading to their young students, which lesson is essential for many reasons.<br /><br />Children need to have good role models for reading. Hearing a teacher or their own parents reading aloud allows a kid to hear the phrasing, inflections, pronunciations, and expressions a good reader uses. A kid doesn't study from a classmate stumbling through an oral passage.<br /><br />Hearing someone reading aloud also opens up an abundance of good literature for them. From these beginnings they naturally create a love for books or writing as well as both!<br /><br />While you are reading aloud, your child develops listening skills, that will benefit them for a lifetime. They are able to also develop the opportunity to imagine things and improve their own story making skills. These talents are commonly underdeveloped in many children. You can improve this by occasionally reading a book without showing them the pictures.<br /><br />Reading stories aloud stimulates children's imagination into what's about to happen. When they hear a science fiction or adventure story it opens up a new world of possibilities for them. This can be a motivation for them to focus on their reading, so they can read the books they love by themselves. If they are reading a story they have already heard before, they'll relive the experience that you provided when you initially read it to them.<br /><br />Scheduled chapter reading of a novel each day can lead to the right discussions about character analysis, prediction, and the author's use of literary strategy, such as satire and flashback. However, do not overdo this. Sometimes just read a book for the pure enjoyment of it. Discussing it like their English teacher will lead to laziness and you may end up killing the joy of reading. It is possible to talk about the story but don't analyze each and every detail of it!<br /><br />Reading a book related to a specific topic like a story set in a specific historical period can give your kids the sensation of what it was like living in that time.
